Lots to Say

Though I have been absent for most of this month, I have been getting some work done. Observe:

3 hats and 1 1/2 socks done. The hats I did in 1 week (yeah, I was crazy). The two brown caps are variations of a basic hat pattern I got from my LYS that I always use for quick gifts or whenever I need something quick, practical, and beautiful to knit. The fuschia and purple hat is a pattern I found off of Ravelry (you can find it here).

The red socks I used the Knitty toe up sock pattern (which by the way is terrible if you want to make stockinette socks). The cable I've seen before on many other sweaters and hats so I just thought about how to make it and it worked out fine. Sadly, they are not for my feet. These socks will be shipped off to Canada some time this week, where an older woman friend of mine lives. Here's a close up of the cables on the toe:

The blue sock is half of a pair of socks for me. They are the Lombard Street socks from Magknits. I heard about it on some back episodes of the Lime & Violet podcast. I know many of you are wondering if I've been living under a rock or something but, I must admit that when I first heard their podcast 2 years ago, I didn't really like it. Lately I've been enjoying their past episodes, mainly because they talk incessantly about knitting and yarn and have no music interupting the conversation. It's perfect! I would say if you haven't been listening to them, subscribe and download their past episodes. Literally hundreds of hours of yarn pr0n, laughter, and sometimes some more politically charged discussions, which I do appreciate from time to time.

Here's a close up of the stich pattern on the foot:

I've also been able to buy some yarn. I ordered this yarn from Webs in the first week of January but I just got the package this past Friday. They werre having their monster end of the year sale so they were pretty backed up in terms of getting orders filled and out the door. My boyfriend didn't like that and told me to not order from them again. However, I'm willing to forgive for wonderful (and usually well priced) yarn.

The thick green yarn is Classic Elite Alaska (gorgeous). The thinner lime green yarn is some Araucanía Ranco (Hecho en Chile/Made in Chile) and the pastel colored yarn is some Berroco Touché, a cotton/rayon blend for my sister-in-law's baby (she's due in April). It will be a blanket, most likely a pinwheel blanket. It looks simple and fun and I have alloted myself tons of time to get it done before this child is born.

That's all for now. Life is getting pretty hectic for me right now. I have much more to tell you, but I don't want to jinx anything, so when the time is right, I shall reveal it all to you guys. As always, happy knitting!

I'm Staying Inside

Yes the weather outside is frightful.

But the knitting is so delightful.

I decided to rip out the sock I showed you guys a couple post back because 7 inches into the foot it started to look like this.

Pretty ginormous for even a man's foot. Look!

The former sock fitting loosely on my boyfriend's foot.

Needless to say I really like how the sock is coming along now.

This is not the first time I've tried to knit this pattern in stockinette. Many moons ago (pre blog) I knit some socks for myself using this Knitty pattern. Second time around, the same thing happens: MASSIVE socks that would not fit an elephant's foot let alone a woman's.

Therefore I have officially black listed this pattern for simple stockinette socks because the stitch is too loose and you'll end up with a huge sock. But as you can see highly textured stitches make for a very snug, beautiful foot covering.

I'm going to eat dinner. Oh yeah, Happy New Year everyone!
